law requires that a person complete application and
fee payment for a Colorado driver's license before
completing 30 days of residency.
Colorado
adult driver's licenses (available at age 21) are
valid for four years; provisional driver's licenses
(available at age 18) are valid for three years;
and beginner's driver's licenses (available at age
16) are valid for two years.
A
written examination is required of all applicants;
a driving examination is required for first-time
applicants and those seeking to renew revoked or
expired licenses overdue by 90 days. The fee is $15.00.

Vehicle

Plates
Residents must display Colorado license plates on their vehicles before
they have completed 45 days of residency. Fee based on vehicle's age,
weight and taxable value. Plates may be obtained at the following locations:
When
a car comes from another state, the owner must have
a verification of the vehicle identification number,
called "physical inspection of vehicle," within 45
days. Verification is available at any emissions
station, police department or the main motor vehicle
office, 200 S. Cascade. Special forms are available
at all branch offices, but not at the police department
or emissions stations. If the car is registered in
another state, the El Paso County Motor Vehicle Office
requires the title or current registration.
Emissions
Testing
All vehicles operated within an eight-county area in Colorado including
portions of El Paso County must pass an emissions test. Proof of passing
the vehicle emissions test is required at time of vehicle registration.
The program excludes residents of Ellicott, Calhan and Peyton. Maximum

Insurance
State law requires automobile owners to carry bodily injury liability,
property damage, personal injury protection (no-fault medical) and
uninsured motorist liability provisions. Proof of vehicle insurance
is required at time of registration.
Child
Car Seat
Every child under four years old and weighing less than 40 pounds must
be in an approved child car seat.
